My Lai Massacre

My Lai Massacre

William Calley

A army commander had advised Charlie Cmpany that all who were found in Son My were considered VC or Activated VC sympathizers, and they ordered the destruction of the village. They arrived to the village shortly after Dawn the soldier that were led by lieutenant William Calley but they didn't found the Viet Cong. They came across a quiet village that was primarily women, children and older men that were just doing their normal routine making breakfast rice. The Villagers were rounded up in a group and the U.S. soldiers. But despite finding a few weapons in their huts, Calley ordered his men to fire upon people that used to live in the village.

Hugh Thompson

The My Lai Massacre reportedly ended after the warrant officer Hugh Thompson an army helicopter pilot on a reconnaissance mission, landed his aircraft between the soldier and the villagers trying to run away from harm and they threatened to open fire if they continue their attack. Hugh Thompson said they flew back and forth and they didn't take awhile until they saw the large numbers of bodies everywhere. They looked everywhere and saw bodies. They noticed some were even infants two, three, four, and five year olds, women, men, and no draft age whatsoever. This what he stated at My Lai conference at Tulane University 1994.
